HTTP/2 vs. HTTP/1.1: A Performance Study to be Presented at Velocity NY

STOCKHOLM--Oct. 5, 2015--Ragnar Lönn, founder of online performance testing SaaS Load Impact and Daniel Stenberg, founder of Curl, Libcurl and IETF contributor to HTTP/2’s development, will be presenting the findings of their study; “HTTP/2 vs. HTTP/1.1: A Performance Analysis” at Velocity NY Oct. 13, 2015.

The study demonstrates the performance differences between HTTP/1.1, the standard Internet protocol for the last decade, and HTTP/2, which was approved by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) earlier this year.

"HTTP/2 is going to revolutionize web performance for some applications, but it won’t be equally beneficial to all,” Lönn said. “We have a unique understanding of how this affects developers, online businesses and the world in general."

It’s widely anticipated that HTTP/2 will be adopted as the standard Internet protocol in the coming months, so it’s important developers understand the performance impact it will have on applications.

As an added bonus, Lönn and Stenberg will be unveiling a free online application where developers can test their websites on a simulated HTTP/2 connection and see how performance stacks up versus HTTP/1.1.

“HTTP/2 is one of the most significant updates to the web since its development as a whole,” said Stenberg. “I think it’s very important for developers to understand how HTTP/2 will change the Internet forever, and this project helps make that clear.”
